Located
in the quiet village of Laborie, away from the maddening
crowds, No. 1 at Château Laborie is part of
an old wine growing Château in the heart of
the Gaillac wine region. Nestled in a horseshoe courtyard
this spacious two bedroom cottage benefits from a
large salt water swimming pool, all-weather tennis
courts and a traditional French Boules playing area.
A truly perfect escape in a still yet largely undiscovered
area of France.
The spacious cottage basks in summer
sunshine and is surrounded by lush and yielding vineyards.
The area is very unspoilt and unsophisticated which
is all very much part of the charm of the region
and its people. |

Château Laborie was an old traditional wine
making château and working farm which has been
completely renovated in recent years. The cottage
at No1 used to be one of the old wine presses that
serviced and produced the wine that sustained the
château. This terraced cottage is fully south
facing with views into the courtyard. The house is
extremely spacious and open plan.

| Local Area |

The region still
enjoys an unspoilt atmosphere and yet there is plenty to do,
if you wish. Laborie is perfectly situated, and if getting away
for a holiday to be immersed in 'la France profonde' is what
you’re really looking for, then you’ve found it.
Laborie is a hamlet about 5 minutes outside the market town of
Gaillac where the local necessities and amenities need to be
mentioned - a full range of shops, bars & restaurants all
with local flavour. The local Super/Hypermarkets, Intermarché & Leclerc,
are close by and stay open until after 8pm - there are no amenities
within walking distance.
Market day in the main square of Gaillac is on Friday with a
typical French travelling market along with plenty of local produce
including fruit, vegetables, cheeses, saucisson, fresh herbs,
garlic & flowers, situated in the lower market square. There
are also smaller markets on Tuesdays and Sunday mornings (fresh
produce only) in Place Thiers. The markets start quite early
and are packing up by midday when most shops close for lunch.

| Things to do |
| |
There are plenty
of very good restaurants both in the local towns and countryside.
There are lots of brochures and information / tourist guides
within the cottage giving you plenty ideas of how to make the
most out of your time in France. The staff at the local Tourist
Office in Gaillac are on hand to help you with your plans. It’s
also worth finding out what’s going on locally as there
are many truly typical fêtes and events taking place all
throughout the year - travelling fairs, carnivals and often in
the medieval towns in the surrounding areas are ‘Son et
Lumières‘, outdoor concerts, etc. The old fortified
towns like Cordes, set on a hill top and others by rivers are
charming, providing great atmosphere, with cobbled streets, squares
and local colour and some beautiful gardens to visit. Well worth
a trip!
We are 15 minutes from Albi for historical sightseeing
and where the Toulouse Lautrec museum boasts the largest collection
of his works world-wide. Ninety minutes from Carcassonne airport,
40 mins from Toulouse , its airport and organised visits of this
beautiful city. Golf (4 courses within 20 mins drive), riding,
tennis, fishing, canoeing, walking, windsurfing etc. are all
catered for within a 20mins. drive. There are several bastide
towns to explore within a short drive or the Roquefort Caves,
Gorges du Tarn and the fortified ‘City’ of Carcassonne,
to mention but a few, if you want to venture further a field.
If your interests include wine tasting then
you couldn’t pick a better spot with the many vineyards
of the Galliac AOC on your doorstep. Slightly further a field
but well worth the extra effort are the Minervois, Corbiere,
Cahor and Madiran regions. |
