Situated at the end of a farm road, 1km from the
small village of VEILHES, this is rural France
at it best where the noisiest neighbours are the
frogs croaking in the evening and birds singing
in the morning. The local market town of Lavaur
is a 10 min drive away and has everything you could
possibly need to supplement your holiday - 3 supermarkets,
bars, restaurants and gift shops etc, along with
a weekly farmers market held each Saturday morning
selling an array of local produce.
The property was completely restored in 2004 to
an exceptionally high standard maintaining many
traditional features including exposed beams and
stone-walls. A large stone fireplace and wood-burning
stove are the focal points of the lower living
accommodation and upstairs there are three bedrooms
each sleeping two people.

Situated
in the heart of the Cocagne region, in the centre of a triangle
formed by Toulouse, Carcassonne and Albi, The Cottage is the
ideal base to explore the many areas of interest of the South
West Region. Within walking distance are three different forests
and two lakes to explore, and mountain bikes can be rented locally
in Lavaur if you want to go a little further a field.
Over 100 artisans and local producers come to the weekly market
of Lavaur to sell an abundance of French delights. There is a
rich array of local specialities including fois gras, confitures,
purple garlic of Lautrec, local cheeses, duck, flowers and the
spectacle of the local farmers selling their live ducks, geese,
chickens and other birds as well as the eggs they lay.

| Things to do |
| |
The many vineyards
of the up and coming Gaillac region are only 30 minutes away
and slightly further a field, but well worth the extra effort,
are the Minervois, Cahor, Madiran and Corbière regions. For the more sporting visitor, golf, riding, windsurfing, quad
biking, canoeing, jet skiing, gliding, swimming, cross country
running and fishing are all within easy reach. Forty minutes away is the city of Toulouse, known as the ‘Pink
City’ because of the colour of brick from which it is built,
with its many historical attractions; The Capitole Square, St.
Sernin Basilica, St. Etienne Cathedral and many museums. For
the kids, a trip to the Citi d’Espace, the European Space
Park shouldn’t be missed. Forty minutes in the opposite direction is Castres with it’s
beautiful 15th century houses bordering the left bank of the
Agout River and The Goya museum and gardens. To the north, Albi
houses the 15th century St Cécile Cathedral with it spectacular
interior, and is home to the Toulouse Lautrec museum and birthplace.
